NYSC official Directives: The Orientation Course for Prospective Corps Members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 batch B stream 1 has been suspended temporarily, Reasons, new directive and next steps
The National Youth Service Corps NYSC has released an official directive suspending the orientation course for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream 1. This update has caused anxiety among graduates who were expecting to report to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area. Below is a full breakdown of the reasons, the new directive from NYSC management, and what affected corps members should do next.
1. Official Announcement and What Happened
NYSC management confirmed that the orientation course for 2026 Batch B Stream 1 prospective corps members deployed to Niger State has been suspended temporarily. The suspension affects all PCMs whose call-up letters indicate Niger State as their state of deployment for this stream.
The 2026 Batch B Stream 1 orientation was earlier scheduled to commence nationwide on Wednesday June 10, 2026, with registration ending midnight Friday June 12, and swearing-in ceremony on Friday June 12. However, the Niger State camp will not receive PCMs on that date until further notice.
2. Reasons for the Temporary Suspension
According to the NYSC statement released on its X (formerly Twitter), the Suspension is necessary as a result of Renovation Going on in the Orientation Camp. Based on official statements and recent events at the Niger State camp, the reasons for the Renovation include:

- Infrastructure damage from windstorm: On April 25, 2026, a windstorm destroyed parts of the NYSC orientation camp facilities in Paiko, Niger State. Affected buildings include male corps members’ hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen, staff quarters, and parts of the state coordinator’s residence. Niger State Governor Umaru Bago ordered immediate repairs, but rehabilitation is still ongoing.
- Camp capacity and safety concerns: Niger State has been classified among high-risk states due to persistent banditry and kidnapping along travel routes. NYSC has repeatedly warned PCMs against night travel and emphasized safety during movement to camps. The scheme is reviewing security arrangements to protect corps members before resumption.
- Deplorable camp condition: The Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, Ambassador Fatima Bala Abubakar, recently decried the deplorable condition of the Niger State camp, noting serious infrastructural deficit while existing facilities are in an appalling state. The permanent camp has been on the drawing board for years, and the temporary camp at Government Secondary School Paiko is overstretched.
New Directive from NYSC Management
In line with the suspension, NYSC management has issued the following directives for affected 2026 Batch B Stream 1 PCMs deployed to Niger State:
- Hold your movement: Do not travel to Paiko camp until NYSC announces a new reporting date. All PCMs are to remain at home and continue monitoring the NYSC portal and official communication channels.
- Documentation remains valid: Your call-up letter, green card, medical certificate of fitness, statement of result, and other documents remain valid for the rescheduled date. Do not attempt to reprint or alter them unless instructed.
- Redirection may occur: NYSC has redirected some PCMs posted to the Federal Capital Territory to camps in Kaduna, Niger and Nasarawa due to limited camp capacity. A similar redirection or redeployment to another camp may be considered for Niger State PCMs once repairs and security assessments are completed.
No payment required: NYSC reiterated that all NYSC services are free. No individual should collect money from you for camp registration or for securing a new posting.
Next Steps for Prospective Corps Members Deployed to Niger State
If you are a 2026 Batch B Stream 1 PCM deployed to Niger State, take these steps immediately:
- Monitor official channels: Check the NYSC portal at http://portal.nysc.org.ng regularly and follow NYSC Nigeria’s verified X handle and Facebook page for updates on the new camp resumption date.
- Complete online documentation: While waiting, conclude all online dashboard documentation, print your call-up letter, and prepare original copies of your credentials.
- Keep documents safe: Original statement of result, institutional ID card, medical fitness certificate from a government hospital, and photocopies of your call-up letter must be ready for camp registration.
- Avoid night travel: NYSC has warned all PCMs nationwide to avoid travelling at night to orientation camps. If your journey will exceed 6pm, break it and lodge at corps lodges, military formations, police stations, or palaces of traditional rulers.
- Contact NYSC for complaints: If you have issues with discrepancies in date of birth or name on your call-up letter versus certificate, contact your institution’s Student Affairs Officer SAO before camp to resolve it.
What About Other States and Batches
The suspension is specific to Niger State for 2026 Batch B Stream 1. Other states will proceed with orientation from June 10 to June 30, 2026 as scheduled. NYSC also stated that registration will close at midnight on Friday June 12 in all 36 states and FCT.
Final Note to Corps Members
NYSC management has assured that the suspension is temporary and aimed at protecting corps members and ensuring the camp is safe and habitable before resumption. Governor Umaru Bago has pledged continued support for the safety and well-being of corps members serving in Niger State.

Prospective corps members are advised to remain calm, avoid fake news and rumors on social media, and rely only on information released through NYSC official channels.
