NECO has announced an increase in the price of E-pin for SSCE registration starting from 2027. See the new fee, reasons for the hike, how it affects students, and how to register early before the change.

The National Examinations Council, NECO, has announced an upward review of the price of its E-pin for Senior School Certificate Examination, SSCE registration. According to the update released by the Council, the new price will take effect from the 2027 registration cycle for both June/July SSCE Internal and November/December SSCE External candidates.

This announcement is already generating reactions from parents, schools, and students across Nigeria, especially with the current economic situation. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is the New NECO E-pin Price?

In a Circular going around released by NECO official on all its social media platform, the New price for both it's exam cycle will now be N50,000 excluding the bank charges, taking effect from 2027. While the November/December GCE Exam price remains the Old price N30,000.

Why Is NECO Increasing the E-pin Price?

There are 3 main reasons suspected for the sudden increase according to a source:

1. Rising cost of logistics: Printing of secure question papers, transportation to 774 LGAs, and storage have gone up due to fuel and inflation.

2. Technology upgrade: NECO is migrating to more CBT features and enhanced biometric verification to reduce malpractice. This requires new servers and software.

3. Examiner remuneration: The Council said it needs to review allowances for invigilators, supervisors, and markers to attract qualified personnel.

When Exactly Will the New Price Start?

The new price does NOT affect 2026 candidates.

2026 June/July SSCE Internal: Still old price

2026 Nov/Dec SSCE External: Still old price

2027 June/July SSCE Internal: New price begins

2027 Nov/Dec SSCE External: New price continues

So if you’re in SS2 now and writing NECO in 2027, budget for the new fee.

How This Affects Students and Parents

1. Higher exam budget: Families with 2-3 candidates will feel it more. A parent registering 3 children may now pay ₦150,000+ instead of ₦90,000.

2. School owners: Private schools may increase “WAEC/NECO package” fees from next session. Get clarification early.

3. Rush for 2026 registration: Some SS2 students may be tempted to register as “external candidates” in 2026 to beat the hike. NECO warns that underage registration is malpractice.

Smart Things To Do Before 2027

1. If you’re eligible for 2026, register now: Don’t wait till next year if you can write this year. The price jump is real.

2. Start saving early: If you’re in SS2, tell your parents now so they can spread the cost over months instead of one-time stress.

3. Beware of fake E-pins: Price hikes always bring scammers. Only buy NECO E-pins from accredited banks, NIPOST, or NECO’s official portal.

4. Watch for state subsidies: Some states like Lagos, Kano, Borno pay NECO fees for public school students. Check if your state will cover the new increase.

How To Buy NECO E-pin Without Issues

1. Go to an accredited bank: First Bank, Access, Zenith, UBA, etc.

2. Request for “NECO SSCE Registration E-pin”

3. Pay the official amount — collect your receipt + E-pin slip

4. Proceed to http://www.neco.gov.ng to complete registration

5. Never buy from “agents” on WhatsApp. NECO does not sell E-pins on social media.

Bottom Line

The NECO E-pin price increase from 2027 is confirmed. With inflation and exam logistics getting expensive, the hike was expected.
